Fixing a DVD Drive on a laptop/notebook/pc
A functioning DVD drive is essential to your computing activities. Without a working DVD drive, you can’t install software, record data to DVDs, listen to music CDs or watch movies with your computer. If your DVD drive won’t open, has no power, or will not play DVDs at all, a variety of issues could be causing the problem(s). You can attempt to fix the DVD disk drive yourself at home by following a series of simple hardware- and software-troubleshooting steps.

1、Turn on your computer and check to see if the light on the front of the DVD drive goes on, which will indicate it is receiving power. Press the “Eject” button on the drive and see if it will open at all. Restart the computer and attempt to open it again if it will not eject. Push a paper clip under the drive’s outer lid and pry it open. Check to see if there is a broken piece or any debris preventing it from opening.
2、Click on the “Start” button on the toolbar at the bottom of your screen, then choose the option that reads “Control Panel.” Click on the icon that is marked as “Device Manager.” Click on the plus sign that is located next to the entry marked as “CD/DVDRW drive.” Double-click on the name of your DVD drive and check the “Status” section to see if it is labeled “This Device is Working Properly.”
3、Click on the “Drivers” tab if the “Status” section indicates an error. Click on the button to “Update Drivers” and wait for the latest driver to download. Restart the computer and try to use the DVD drive again.
4、Open the DVD rom drive if it has power and put a laser lens-cleaning disc inside it. Follow the instructions that came with the cleaner to run the laser cleaning program. Restart the computer and attempt to use the drive again.
5、Turn the computer completely off and remove the power cord from the back of the case. Unplug all of the other cables and set down the case on a desk or table. Remove the screws holding the side panel to the case and pull off the panel. Replace the SATA cable that runs from the power supply to the DVD drive. Re-assemble the computer and try to use the drive again. Contact the DVD drive manufacturer or DVD drive Online Sales Store such as udtek.com for further troubleshooting steps and a possible replacement through the warranty if the drive still does not work.
